First time visitors
You are not alone if you feel a little nervous the first time you visit a spa – many people have their first spa experience when they receive a gift voucher, and are not sure what to expect. The staff at Amani African Spas would like their clients to feel comfortable and relaxed, and have compiled the following information to enlighten you on the finer points.

Check your Schedule
To avoid disappointment Amani recommends that you have more than one date in mind when you book your spa treatment, as your first choice may not be available – especially when booking on the weekends. Weekends can be booked a month in advance so give yourself some time before booking.

Select your treatments
The basic spa treatments are massage, facial, body treatment, manicure and pedicure. In addition, Amani has many combination and wellness treatments. Refer to the spa menu of the Amani Spa you are visiting to make your selection before you phone.

Prepare for your spa visit before you go
Drink plenty of water before and after treatments to enhance the benefits. Don't eat for at least an hour before or after your massage. Arrive early and enjoy some of the spa facilities, giving yourself time to relax body and mind. Although most spas have lockers that lock, you might want to leave valuables at home.

What do we provide?
Each guest is provided with a gown, a pair of slippers and a towel, as well as a locker where you can store all your valuables and clothes for the duration of your visit to the spa. Amani’s spas have showers for you to make use of after your treatment and body wash, shampoo and conditioner are provided. In the changing rooms you will find hand and body lotion and deodorant. Hairdryers are also provided and there are electrical facilities for your own hot brushes or hair straighter. You may wish to bring your own hair styling products, as these are not provided.

What do you bring with you?
Amani’s spas are unisex, so a swimming costume is mandatory when using the pools or saunas. You may keep your underwear on for body treatments or massage.
Gift Vouchers: Please bring along any Gift Vouchers that are required for your booking. You will need to hand these in on arrival.

Spa Etiquette
Remember your 'spa voice' when you are with us. There are treatments taking place elsewhere in the spa, so please respect the other clients who are enjoying their experience. Ensure that your cell phones are switched off or turned to silent. Once you’ve been escorted to the changing rooms, please fill out your consultation card and get undressed. If you are using the facilities wear a swimming costume on. If you are going straight into your treatment leave your underwear on, excluding your bra. You will be draped with large towels during the treatment. (Word of advice: when you are finished using the facilities remove your wet costume and put your underwear back on so you are comfortable throughout your treatment). During your treatment you should control the conversation. If you do not want to be bothered with chitchat please let the therapist know she must respect your silence. Do not be afraid to speak out and let your therapist know if you are uncomfortable, cold or unhappy with the pressure of the treatment. Whilst you are with us remember to breath, forget the outside pressures of the world and relax. As homecare is vitally important to continuing your spa experience; your therapist will recommend products to you. At no time must you feel pressurised to take the products recommended but do take note of the advice given to you. Showing appreciation / gratitude at the end of your treatment is appreciated. This can be done at the front desk after your treatment. The recommended rate is 10-15% of your service price.

What to do when you are here
This is your time to de-stress and relax. In order to prepare you for the treatments you will be receiving, you will have the opportunity to relax in our spa's hydrotherapy. These treatments do not require a therapist to administer. Amani suggests that you arrive 60 minutes prior to your appointment and take time to relax and make use of the facilities. Kindly follow the time frames and guidelines to assist you in effectively utilising these areas. Once you have changed into your swimming suit head down to the spa pool situated behind the juice bar. The pool is heated and jetted for you to relax and unwind for approximately 20-30mins. Please feel free to order yourself something to drink while you are relaxing in the pool. After you have enjoyed the pool make your way back to the changing areas, in the changing areas you have access to the sauna, steam room and Swiss shower. We suggest choosing your facility of preference – Sauna = Dry heat, Steam room = wet heat and spending 20mins in one of these. Finish off your experience with an invigorating Swiss Shower; begin by pushing the button on the right to start the 18 pressurised jets that surround you. These will hit you with warm water. Once the cycle is complete hit the button behind you and your body will be showered with cold water from the overheard waterfall jet. Your body temperature will now be back to normal and you are all showered off and ready to begin your hands on therapies. Your therapist will shortly collect you from the change rooms so relax and help yourself to some ice tea or water that is available to you at any time.
